What is chana chilli?

Chana chilli is a spicy delicious Indian snack or side dish recipe prepared with Chickpeas, It is also one of my favourite time pass snack while binge-watching. Chana chilli is also one of the easy snack recipe which you can enjoy with your family and friends too. you can also enjoy this as side dish during lunch or dinner. In this IPL season to stay in your home and enjoy some snacks, then I would definitely recommend my chana chilli recipe which you can prepare in or home easily.

Variations

You won’t find many variations for this spicy chana chilli recipe but you can also prepare it without frying if you don’t want oil fried and crisp, You can just boil and cook and enjoy or you can roast it in oven at 180 deg C, but let me tell you this crispy delicious chickpea chilli recipe is just what you are missing. You must definitely try this and have it with your loved ones. I have used Kabuli chickpea in this recipe but you can also use green and brown chickpea to prepare crispy chickpea chilli.

How to make chana chilli?

Now you can easily prepare crispy chana chilli in your home by knowing my recipe, I have also shared all the detailed recipe with photos in this article, you can easily go through it and learn how to make Chana chilli easily. As this is an Indo-Chinese version so it requires sauces like soy sauce, chilli sauce, schezwan sauce and vinegar. First you have to boil and cook the chickpeas before frying it by mixing with corn flour. Later add the veggies and sauces and cook for few minutes as per the instruction given below, at last you have to add the fried chana and mix well to fully prepare chickpea chilli.

Important points 

  1. Cook chana fully otherwise it won’t be that crispy.
  2. It is important to soak the chana for 6 hours atleast.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chole/chickpea
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup corn flour
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp garlic
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1/4 cup capsicum
  • 1/4 cup red bel pepper
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp chilli sauce
  • 1 tsp red chilli sauce
  • 2 tsp schezwan sauce
  • 2 tsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • spring onion handful

Instructions

  • To prepare chana chilli first, you have to cook chana and for that soak the chana for 6 hours and add it to a pressure cooker with salt and close the lid
  • cook until two whistles on high heat and 15 minutes on low heat
  • strain it and let it cool
  • now add corn flour and mix it well
  • drop it in hot oil
  • fry on high heat until golden brown and crisp
  • now in a pan add oil, ginger, garlic and green chilli and fry it for a minute
  • add onion, capsicum, red bell pepper and cook until it becomes soft
  • add soy sauce, chilli sauce, red chilli sauce, schezwan sauce, tomato ketchup and vinegar and mix it well
  • now add the fried chickpeas and mix it well
  • add handful of spring onion and mix it
  • chana chilli is ready
