What is curry leaves rice?
Curry leaves rice is also known as karuveppilai sadam and karibevu chithranna is one of the quick variety rice recipe which is prepared as breakfast. It is prepared with using the masala prepared with curry leaves, dry red chillies and tamarind as the main ingredient along with chana dal, mustard seeds etc. Karibevu chithranna is also one of the delicious variety rice recipe which can be easily prepared for the breakfast as well as for the lunch box. It is originated from south India and mainly from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Variations
Variety rice are itself variations of Instant rice recipes prepared for the breakfast and curry leaves rice is one of them. To make it special you can also add dry fruits like cashews in it and you can also prepare this with cooked rice or you can even boil the rice with it which is a different method. In this recipe I have added cooked rice with the freshly prepared masala and you can also add masala available in the market but as it is not that easily available, I recommend home made masala which I have prepared in this recipe.

First prepare the masala by adding the ingredients on the pan and roast it, later cool it down and grind it. now add the ingredients in pan and roast it and add cooked rice with prepared masala and mix it. Important points
- Add dry red chillies according to your spice level
- Don’t overcook the rice otherwise it will result in sticky rice.
- Keep an eye on the spices while roasting them, don’t burn them otherwise it will become bitter in taste.

Ingredients
For masala
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tbsp chana dal
- 1 tbsp urad dal
- 1/2 tbsp methi seeds
- 3 dry red chillies
- 1/2 cup curry leaves
- 1 inch tamarind
- 1/2 tsp hing
- 2 tsp oil
- 1/4 cup peanuts
For preparation
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 10 curry leaves
- 2 cup rice cooked
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- To prepare Curry leaves rice first you need to prepare masala for it and for that add oil, chana dal, urad dal, methi seeds in a pan
- fry it for a minute on medium heat
- add dry red chillies, curry leaves and tamarind and mix it well
- add hing and fry for a minute
- let it cool and add it in a blender
- masala ready
- Now in a pan add oil and peanuts and fry it for a minute
- add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and fry it for a minute
- add curry leaves and mix it
- now add cooked rice and mix it well
- add the prepared masala, salt and mix it well
